The HDR Supervisor of the Month award recognises, celebrates and shares good supervisory practice, and is also open to professional staff who support HDR candidates.
The August Supervisor of the Month Award is made jointly to Associate Professor Sonia Akter (Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU College of Law, Governance & Policy) and Dr Meaghan McEvoy (School of History, ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences). You can read more about Sonia’s and Meaghan’s reflections on their supervisory practice, and those of other awardees, here.
Meaghan's supervisory approach:
“As a supervisor, I believe it's vital to acknowledge the pressures our students face and to work with them to ensure they can focus on their studies and meet deadlines, and also try to balance the other roles and responsibilities they may have. PhD students are more than just students – they are people with busy lives, family and other obligations, and this needs to be taken into account. This is always challenging – but I believe helping students feel motivated about their research, particularly by together designing achievable short-term goals helps.”
